Velma's World - A blog to follow

When people see my pieces the number one question I get is: "How did you do that?" the second being: "What inspires you to come up with that?!" Well, here is one of my inspirations. Velmas World.

My first love is fiber (yarn) and as a knitter looking at yarn is like walking around a candy shop. I envy & admire the talents of other fiber artists and Velma is a true fiber artist. She takes her love of fiber to a whole new level. She dyes, spins, creates and shares with the world works of art in the sheep's clothing known as a skein. But her skeins are far more than that. She brings textures, fibers, color and love to each of her pieces. Because she creates each skein from scratch, no two are alike and by scratch I mean = TOTALLY HANDMADE. A true Handmade Artisan! Please enjoy some images from her blog and don't forget to check out her shop: colorbombcreations.etsy.com

Handmade Toys: Beautiful & Classic

There is a lot of worry with Handmade Toys. Worry from artisans that they won't be able to create their loved pieces because of new laws & regulations and worry from customers that they are purchasing a safe and secure product. As an avid Little House on the Prairie fan - yes - I said it I see that handmade is as precious now as it was then & even before. Victorian Dolls were created in the Victorian Era, not in 1956!

Here are some wonderful examples of why Handmade is exquisite and hopefully will be able to work with the laws to continue to create amazing pieces from safe materials. Because it's the little things that count. The one of a kind specialty gifts my 2 year old refers to as her "babies & luvies".

A simple brooch can make all the difference

Sometimes all you need to spic up an outfit is a little color. Brooches are wonderful ways to change a look from casual to business to evening to morning. Spring is here and these lightweight beauties spice up spring jackets, blazers, belt loops, purses, even t-shirts. Affordable enough to own a few - experiment! Compliments will be a common occurrence.

The above brooch by artisan thejunebride.etsy.com is a wonderful way to enter spring with color! This reclaimed wool brooch measures approximately 3.25”-3.75” across and features a convenient easy open-and-close hinged pin on the back for safety and security.

Next are the felted brooches by artisan LISAandLUCY.etsy.com These pieces have been wet felted and left to dry so the ends of the flower curl over creating a more realistic effect. Various glass beads on wire create three stamens that can be bent however you choose. The flower and stem measure 4" tall and 3 1/2" at the wide area.

This adorable brooch by artisan nancyknitsandstuff.etsy.com is a unique approach to a floral brooch! A bird brooch made with a miniature green hued bird and vintage and new millinery pieces. The bird is perched on top of a button and items are wrapped and tied with a silk ribbon. Some glue for extra security. Millinery pieces include velvet leaves, flowers and a spun cotton mushroom.

Happy decorating your spring wardrobe!

An inspiring bath

It seems as though the bath & body world has been overrun by large commercial companies selling the same products in different scents. Of course, there is some comfort in the unchanging, but what if your bath experience could be a little more? What if when we think of our morning shower or evening soak we get excited for it? What if the products were interesting and the items we use are organic? What if our bath & body products are actually part of our bathroom decor? Well here are some amazing treats to wet your bath whistle!

Barebummbath is the artist behind the above & below images. Can you say "Delish!"? They look so yummy you almost want to take a nibble! This yummy soap is made with scents of watermelon, mandarin orange weave with golden marigolds, green apples, water hyacinth and fresh crushed leaves, floral middle notes of buttery tuberose together with wild roses and lilies, with dry down notes of creamy caramel, vanilla, precious woods and patchouli.
This soap is 5% superfatted with shea butter, all vegan, and is sure to leave your skin as smooth as a baby's bumm! Yay! no more dry wintery skin!

Amber from ambersambry makes yummy soaps from natural ingredients like palm oil, coconut oil, olive oil, golden jojoba oil, rice bran oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, unrefined shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter, lye, fresh brewed coffee, coffee grounds, natural and synthetic fragrances, natural caramel coloring..... all of which are in the next yummy soap......Coffee Mint Kitchen Hand Soap. This amazing soap is made with a blend of peppermint essential oil and the most INCREDIBLE fresh coffee scent I have ever smelled. Seriously, it is really nice. :) It also has real coffee grounds for scrubby action and was made with freshly brewed coffee. So cool!

How about a cool, organic way to use your new soaps? (Self promo here - lol) I recently came up with a new line of organic washcloths & bath mitts to spa yourself in your own home on sale for Kiss My Style. Affordable, soft & good for the environment, these items are Handmade with 55% Hemp, 45% Organic Cotton French Terry, 11.5 oz. This hemp/cotton French terry knitted fabric is plain on one side with loops on the other side. The bath mitt is one size fits all and has a loop to hang comfortably in your shower, the washcloth is 10x10 and made from the same fabric. A wonderful way to be organic and feel spa-liscous!

How about a little chuckle on your sweater? This adorable Snail in Brown Felt brooch is made by artist Tumus. This eco-friendly version has been hand stitched from recycled felt and measures approx. 2.5 in x 2 in. Two button eyes make for an unexpected animated face (for a snail).A pin fastener has been stitched on back so Mr. Snail can travel with you. You may find that each of these mini creations vary in small details and each one has a unique personality.

What better way to spread a loving giggle than to start with an address sticker on a letter written with love?
